Since 1986, Metropolitan Montessori Schools has been a trusted partner for Houston families — providing high-quality early childhood education, nurturing every child’s natural curiosity, and building a community where children can truly thrive. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we look back with gratitude and look ahead with excitement. Thank you for being part of our story.

Our Legacy
Our Legacy
For forty years, Metropolitan Montessori Schools has created meaningful early learning experiences for Houston children, families, and educators. What began as a focused commitment to quality care and Montessori inspired education has grown into a trusted community resource. Through every season of growth, MMS has remained centered on the same belief: children flourish when they are known, respected, encouraged, and given the freedom to discover. This anniversary celebrates the people, partnerships, and purpose that have shaped our enduring story together.
Our Beginning
Our Beginning
Metropolitan Montessori Schools opened its doors on May 23, 1986, in a thriving downtown Houston. Cathedral House Episcopal School was the organization’s first location, where high quality learning, a family centered approach and a deep respect for childhood guided each day. In the fall of 2008, the Center for Early Childhood Education at Rice University expanded that vision to another Houston community. From these beginnings, MMS built a legacy of thoughtful care, purposeful learning, and lasting relationships with generations of families.
The Children
The Children
Over four decades, thousands of children have entered MMS classrooms ready to explore, imagine, and grow. Each child has brought a unique personality, perspective, and potential to our community. With caring guidance from dedicated educators, countless young learners have discovered confidence in their abilities, joy in ideas, and pride in their accomplishments. Their first friendships, questions, discoveries, and successes remind us that early childhood education is not merely preparation for what comes next; it is meaningful, essential learning in itself.
The Families
The Families
Behind every child is a family, and MMS has been honored to serve thousands of Houston families throughout their children’s earliest years. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers have entrusted us with a responsibility, and we have valued their partnership at every step. Our family centered approach recognizes that caregivers are children’s first teachers and loving advocates. By listening, communicating, and working together with respect, MMS helps create continuity between home and school while strengthening the circle of support surrounding every child.
A Ripple Effect
A Ripple Effect
The impact of MMS reaches far beyond a single classroom or school year. Countless children who once learned, played, and formed their earliest friendships here have carried their confidence and curiosity into new schools, communities, and lives. Families have shared their experiences with friends, returned with younger siblings, and remained connected across generations. Educators supported through MMS programs have also extended this influence through their own work. These relationships form a legacy, creating ripples of care and learning throughout Houston.
Looking Ahead
Looking Ahead
As MMS looks ahead, our purpose remains as clear as it was when we began in 1986: to help every child develop a passionate, lifelong love of learning. The next chapter will build on forty years of experience, partnerships, community service and care for Houston’s families. MMS will continue to create opportunities for children, support parents and caregivers, and invest in childhood professionals who make quality early childhood education possible. With gratitude for history and confidence in the future, we look forward to serving generations still to come.
